LG Infinia 47LW6500 47-Inch Cinema 3D 1080p 240 Hz LED HDTV with Smart TV (Included: Four Pairs of 3D Glasses) – $1,899.99
Last January I had a dilemma. i needed to upgrade an old 40″ Samsung 720P LCD tv but i could not decide whether to buy a 3D tv because the technology was so new. i made up my mind to play it safe and ended up purchasing a Samsung 55B8500 in February 2010. That distinctive LED model was the last one to have local dimming backlight, not edge lit. i have to say, I’m still beyond proud of my decision because that tv is almost flawless and 3D technology has certainly improved.
Anyways, a year passed and that i felt that it was time to buy a 3D tv. This time to switch my old 40″ Samsung that was now in my bedroom. I researched online and went to multiple stores comparing brands, sizes and the variation between active and passive 3D. I must’ve spent an excellent 2 months before finally choosing this LG model. i like Samsung and had originally wanted the recent UN55D8000 model with the slim bezel but it surely was just a little greater than i needed to spend. Plus, after some time I had come to love passive 3D greater than active mainly because i would not ought to handle charging the glasses or replacing them(expensive) in the event that they broke.
So the principle reason i purchased this model was for the 3D which i need to say is good. It is not as crisp an image as active shutter but it’s nonetheless clear. Passive 3D only delivers 540 lines to every eye hence halving the 1080p resolution but in all honesty, the image still appears like it’s in HD. The television delivers great 3D depth and that is what it is all about. One negative concerning the 3D picture though is which you could make out thin horizontal lines around the whole screen while in 3D mode. BUT, here’s only noticeable when you are watching from 5 feet or closer. All passive tvs are like this and the smaller the screen the fewer noticeable. I watch from 6-8 ft away so i do not notice it in any respect. Recommended viewing distance for a tv this size is at the least 6 ft anyways.
The 2D to 3D conversion isn’t anything special. The depth isn’t quite there and when it’s it just doesn’t look right. It’s fun to play with though.
The 2D picture quality is superb but one drawback is the threshold lighting. It’s noticeable in dark scenes and there’s uneven screen uniformity. My Samsung is back-lit so i assume I’m spoiled because I’ve never encountered this before. All i need to say is that I’ll never buy another edge-lit tv ever again.
Overall, it is a good tv. Whenever you are not looking for to spend an excessive amount of on a 3D tv($1400) and do not are looking to handle active shutter glasses it is a great tv to have. Although it’s your decision to attend for LG’s newer model: LG 47LX9500. It has local dimming backlight, 480hz refresh rate, and a slimmer bezel. Just expect to pay much more.

3D Technology Checklist
This product is 3D-related. That will help you get a good 3D experience, use the checklist below to make sure you have everything you will want. 3D viewing requires:
![]() |
A Display First, you will want a 3D-ready display–whether it is a 3D HDTV, 3D projector, or 3D computer monitor. These displays have more processing power than standard 2D models for displaying 3D images in rapid succession. |
![]() |
A Source Your display could be ready for 3D playback, but you’ll still want a device to read 3D content. It is a cable box with a subscription to a 3D channel, a 3D Blu-ray Disc player, or a PlayStation 3 system. |
![]() |
3D Content 3D content–the true entertainment, in other words–may be played back using the source mentioned above, whether it is a 3D broadcast out of your cable provider, a 3D Blu-ray Disc, or a 3D game. |
![]() |
3D Glasses For now, the majority of 3D HDTVs require glasses for 3D viewing. Many use powered “active shutter” glasses, others polarized “passive” glasses. You will need one pair per viewer, and they’re going to need to be compatible together with your display, whether they’re the identical brand, or a couple of “universal” glasses designed to work across brands. |
![]() |
HDMI Cable To glue your source (which includes a 3D Blu-ray Disc player) in your display, you will want a high-speed HDMI cable. Cables with this designation feature bandwidth hurries up to ten.2 Gbps (gigabits per second), for carrying the 3D signal with none lack of quality. |
